What Is a Crossbite?
In a normal bite, the upper teeth sit slightly outside the lower teeth and overlap them to a certain degree. A crossbite occurs when this relationship is reversed in one or more areas and the lower teeth bite outside the upper teeth.
When a crossbite affects a large portion of the dentition, it may be associated with a Class III skeletal pattern or underbite. If the skeletal discrepancy is severe, orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery may need to be considered.

Can a Crossbite Be Corrected Without Surgery?

Non-surgical orthodontic correction requires an accurate diagnosis and careful treatment planning. Depending on the severity and cause of the crossbite, treatment may involve orthodontics alone or orthodontics combined with orthognathic surgery. During consultation, we clearly explain the advantages and limitations of both options so you can make an informed decision.

When the skeletal discrepancy is significant, orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery may need to be considered to achieve a more favorable functional and aesthetic result.
