What Is a Deep Bite?
When the back teeth are fully together, the upper front teeth normally overlap the lower front teeth by approximately 1–2 mm. This vertical overlap is called the overbite. A deep bite is a type of malocclusion in which the upper front teeth excessively overlap the lower front teeth, resulting in an increased overbite.
Correction may involve intruding the front teeth, allowing or creating greater vertical height in the posterior teeth, or a combination of both. These movements may take longer than simple tooth alignment.

Excessive contact between the front teeth may increase the risk of traumatic occlusal forces and tooth wear.

Orthodontic miniscrews provide stable skeletal anchorage and can be used to achieve precise vertical and horizontal tooth movement, including controlled intrusion of the front teeth when required for deep bite correction.

Restoring the Vertical Dimension
When excessive wear or loss of posterior tooth height contributes to a deep bite, coordinated treatment with our restorative team may be used to restore the vertical dimension and establish a more stable bite.
