What Is Dental Spacing?
Dental spacing refers to gaps that develop between the teeth. When a gap is present between the two upper central incisors, it is commonly called a midline diastema. Spacing often develops for reasons that are opposite to those associated with crowding, and in some cases the gaps may gradually increase as the teeth shift over time.
When the teeth are undersized or their proportions are not harmonious, complete space closure with orthodontics alone may not be possible. In such cases, coordinated restorative treatment with a prosthodontic team may be recommended.
